Discussion:
Assembly at 33C3?

Hi Genode hackers,

recently, the call for participation for the 33th Chaos Communication Congress [1] has been released, an amazing event I very much enjoy attending for quite a few years now.

This year, I'm thinking about organising an assembly at which I can focus on some side projects of mine that are partly Genode related.

For those of you who are not familiar with the concept: An assembly is a self-organised get-together and typically targeted at a certain topic. I.e. it can be a place for exchanging ideas, lively discussion and even collaborative hacking, and all of this for the entire congress. ;-)

As the Genode community seems to be growing, I'd like to ask whether someone here is 1) considering attending the 33C3 and 2) interested in an assembly about Genode-related projects?

@GenodeLabs:
I reckon that the date of the congress might not be very convenient for some of you. Nevertheless, I think it'd be great having one or more Genode experts at the congress to represent the project properly. I also see the opportunity for you to do some tutorials, e.g. for the Turmvilla/Heeselicht scenario.

Hi Johannes,

sorry for the late response. I don't know whether it is already to late
to apply for, but if you are still willing to organize an assembly you
can count on me. I'll join you at the assembly, can provide help with
Turmvilla/Heeselicht and Co., and I think about presenting something new
with TOR.

Best regards
Stefan

That's great, Stefan. And no, it's not too late. It's actually too early as assemblies will be organised in the wiki, which is (afaik) not online yet. I'll keep you updated here.

Cheers

Hi Christian,

no, I haven't applied yet because neither of us (afaik) managed to get a ticket so far. Unfortunately, the C3 has reached a size again for which the resources (i.e. space and tickets) are rare. The application deadline is end of November, so I propose to first wait for the next two rounds of tickets (and hopefully get some) and then prepare the application.

Regards
Johannes

Hi,

I managed to get a ticket (yay!). So far I know of Stefan, Mischa and myself who would like to take part in the/an assembly at the 33C3. As an alternative to applying for an own assembly, we could also just enter a Genode project into the wiki [1] and join an existing assembly.

Please let me know if you either intend to join us or want to pay us a visit. Consider this a friendly "last call" ;-) as we may continue planning between the three of us and don't post any more updates here.

In summary, I currently see the following options:
* Some friends of mine from Braunschweig are also thinking about registering an assembly. They are a group of 9+ people that want to pick up some coding side-projects.
* I had a look at the wiki [2] and noticed that there is an Assembly from the Secure Desktops mailing list [3]. I don't know any guys from this assembly but it seems to be a cluster of similar projects (Qubes, Tails, Ethos OS, etc.). Could be interesting to connect with them, especially with the recent work with TOR.
* Apply for an own assembly.

By the way: I actually bought a spare ticket that I'd be willing to offer to one of the Genode folks. Let me know by Monday if you're interested.
